Veterinary DITI is a non invasive diagnostic technique that allows the examiner to visualize and quantify changes in skin surface temperature. An infrared scanning device is used to convert infrared radiation emitted from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are visualized in color on a monitor.
EquiSpectrum is solely an equine practice that uses only medical grade FDA registered screening equipment. All screens are performed by Certified Equine Clinical Thermographers and interpreted only by Board Certified Veterinary Thermologists. This ensures the most precise and dependable results possible.

Medical grade thermal imaging cameras are FDA registered and are designed and manufactured specifically for medical and veterinary application. Meditherm Vet 2000TM is designed and calibrated for optimal operation in the narrow temperature range pertinent to and specific for detecting and recording metabolic heat and therefore physiologic function. Yes, DITI is the most non invasive screening technique available. There is no contact and is therefore completely stress free.
DITI needs to be done out of the sun and away from the influence of the elements. Most stables are a suitable area for screening and your facility can be discussed when you book your appointment. EquiSpectrum is a fully mobile operation and can travel to your horse.
You do not need your vet’s referral, although we are more than happy to keep the practitioner of your choice advised of the screening and the results.
No, thermal imaging is very affordable, especially when compared to other diagnostics. Please contact us to discuss pricing packages.

This is dependent on your insurance and your horse’s issue. Customarily you will need to pay for the screening first, and then file a claim for reimbursement with your insurance company once the report is received.

After your horse has been scanned, we will forward the images and history for review by one of our Board Certified Veterinary Thermologists. Results, complete with an objective opinion and a recommendation, generally take about a week (except in the case of an emergency) and a full report will be delivered to you and the veterinarian of your choice. A discussion between the interpreting thermologist and your veterinary can be facilitated if the need arises.
